Welcome. Very often Attention Deficit Disorder is combined with another condition, most commonly anxiety or depression. Sometimes the diagnosis of the additional condition is not clear. What is clear, however, is when there is a problem that ADD medication isn’t solving, additional approaches have to be tried. My hope is that this month's NewsNote will help readers think beyond the boundaries of ADD when medication seems to fall short.
The focus of this site is Attention Deficit Disorder, an important condition affecting five to eight per cent of children and up to six per cent of adults. ADD can be responsible for difficulty in learning, problems with peers, and poor self esteem. In adults it can affect marital relationships and job performance.
It is my belief that successful treatment of ADD is far more likely if the patient and family understand the condition. That is why, over fifteen years ago, I began a newsletter called the Epstein Quarterly, which has now become a monthly publication, "Epstein ADD NewsNote." You can access all our past NewsNotes and a selection of updated Newsletters in our NewsNote and Newsletter libraries.
If you'd like to receive my monthly NewsNotes by email, please sign up. It's a great feature and I hope you'll take advantage of it. I hope the site is useful for you in understanding ADD and its treatment. Please let me know if you have suggestions for its improvement.
A note from our ADD Calendar: School terms and marking periods are coming to an end soon. This is a good time to see how exams are going, review study habits, and make sure that the student (at any level) is ready for the rest of the year, which is often more difficult than the first part."Thanks for looking in."
